Aquatic Therapy

As an extension of land-based therapies, aquatic therapy provides increased motivation, challenges, and sensory input through which individuals can continue developing their skills.

HCA’s licensed occupational therapists, physical therapists, and assistants provide aquatic therapy at the Broome Developmental Center’s pool facility.

Benefits

  • Physical strength and balance
  • Spatial relations and sensory integration
  • Positive body image and self-esteem
  • Head control, range of motion, and improved posture
  • Cardiovascular function
  • Increased independence and socialization

Eligibility

Aquatic therapy may be appropriate for individuals with a wide range of disabilities, including neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, sensory processing, and/or developmental delays. It is best to check with your current therapy provider(s) to determine if this therapy is appropriate. Your healthcare provider will be required to complete a prescription form before an individual can begin aquatic therapy at HCA.
